Multislice computed tomography angiography in the assessment of hepatic vascular anatomy in living related donors
Uvarov K.A., Abramova N.N.

Purpose of the work was to optimize methodological approaches for investigating and assessing hepatic arteries as well as portal and hepatic veins prior to the resection of liver fragment from the living related donor and also to organize the findings of liver’s blood supply. A total of 200 potential donors were examined by Siemens Somatom «Sensation-64» computed tomography scanner, multiphase scanning protocol. This study showed high diagnostic capabilities of the contrast-enhanced computed tomography in imaging arterial and venous blood supply to the liver.

A new alternative method to treat large prostatic adenoma: X-ray guided endovascular embolization of the prostatic arteries
Kurbatov D.G., Sitkin I.I., Dubskii S.A., Lepetukhin A.E.

The authors present the results of treatment of large prostatic adenoma in 21 patients by X-ray guided endovascular occlusion of prostatic arteries. This method allows improving urinary flow. It also reduces the surgical risk significantly and requires shorter hospitalization period. In addition, in some cases the proposed method of treatment can help to prepare patients for conventional endoscopic intervention. It eliminates the need for major abdominal surgery for large prostatic adenoma.

Echogenicity, structure and mobility of atherosclerotic carotid plaques in acute hemispheric ischemic stroke
Voinov S.A., Leliuk S.E., Golovin D.A., Leliuk V.G., Skvortcova V.I.

The purpose of the study was to examine relationships between echo structure and mobility of atherosclerotic carotid plaques in patients with acute hemispheric ischemic stroke. Materials and methods. The study included 17 patients with acute hemispheric ischemic stroke aged 53-89 years (mean – 68.0). We assessed echogenicity and strain indices of atherosclerotic plaques (ASP), which were measured by vector velocity imaging separately for the fibrous cap, lipid core (matrix) and base of ASP and for the intact wall of carotid artery. Results. Strain indices of every ASP-component are higher than of the intact wall of carotid artery. Higher strain value and higher strain rate were found in the core of hypoechioc ASP compared with those in the fibrous cap and base. This difference was not observed in hyperechoic plaques. Conclusion. Plaque progression is associated with the disturbed mechanical properties of arterial wall. As opposed to hyperechoic atherosclerotic plaques, mobility in the core of a hypoechoic one is higher compared with its fibrous cap. It can be related to the plaque vulnerability.

Intracardiac calcification as a marker of severity of peripheral arterial occlusive disease
Abalmasov V.G., Goriaeva A.N.

The purpose of the study was to assess atherosclerotic disease of the arteries in the presence and absence of intracardiac calcification. Materials and methods. Echocardiography, ultrasound investigations of the innominate, carotid, subclavian and vertebral arteries as well as of the lower limb arteries were performed in 53 patients with intracardiac calcification and in 39 patients without it. Gender and were similar between the two groups. The both groups were comparable in terms of the gender and somatic diseases. Results. Hemodynamically significant stenoses and peripheral arterial occlusions were detected only in the group of patients with intracardiac calcification in 26.4% of cases. Conclusion. Intracardiac calcification detected by echocardiography requires investigation of peripheral arteries.
